Guitar itself was very nice...but... Mar 16, 2011

Make no mistake, this is a beginner's kit, but it had everything I needed to start learning bass guitar(minus the lessons). The order process was smooth, good delivery time, & I found everything as described.
I immediately arranged to take bass lessons from a local professional, &, knowing next to nothing about the bass guitar, except for Geddy Lee, I had the guitar itself checked out by this seasoned professional musician & teacher. Aside from some buzzing, the guitar itself was remarkably nice for the way it was billed - it is not what one would call a professional, playing-out-in-a-band-axe, but it was deemed to be an excellent guitar to learn on for the next couple of years. Now this in no way reflects on the workmanship of the makers, but there are obviously different levels of guitars just as with anything else. We raised the strings a bit, & it sounds just fine. This guitar is crafted very well, plays nicely, is easy to work with & I would rate the guitar itself a 5-star item if this was the only thing in the package.
As expected, the accessories were adequate for a beginning musician, but having played guitar & owning some fairly decent gear, the extras (with the exception of the bass guitar tuner, which was a nice addition) were inexpensively made. I opted to use my own patch cords & strap, which work quite nicely. The gig bag is also nice & a must-have. The only disappointment was the amp, which I knew was a practice amp, but it buzzed a little too much for my liking (I knew this by the amp I used in my lessons). It gave up the ghost after about 8 months & just buzzes incessantly. I purchased a used 45W Fender bass amp, & now I really enjoy practicing my licks at home in the basement (so I don't wake up the household).
All in all, great package for a beginner, things were as expected, but again, the guitar itself was worth the price, the rest was gravy. 5 for the guitar, 4 for everything else - overall, 4.5 stars
