3For light/ occassional work  Oct 02, 2008 By Jim Anderson "The tuul fuul"
I bought this item to speed up the initial clean-up on some antique chisels. At this price I wasn't expecting the best and got about what I expected. The plastic liner the two plates are glued to has a little too much flex and the glue gave way about a week into use. This proved to be a blessing in disguise as I made a handled backer for each and continue to use them. Diamond stones cut very fast and, although they leave a more significant scratch pattern, reduce the amount of time needed for removing pitting, burrs and the like. If you're planning on a diamond stone for final clean-up I'd spend a little more and get a finer grade, but given the above I'd say these have been worth it.

4Pretty Good Stone  Nov 05, 2010 By Ricardo
I've been thinking of trying a diamond stone for a while but have been put off by the prices of some of those things. For the price, I thought I'd give this one a try.

So far, I've used it for kitchen knives as well as for several pocket knives and couldn't be happier. The "medium" side is actually pretty coarse and I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a really dull knife or want to get rid of a nick on the blade.

What I'm finding very useful is the fine side. Those plastic cutting boards are really hard on cutlery and sometimes steeling the blade isn't enough to bring back a good edge. For the most part, a kitkchen knife that has gotten a little dull doesn't need a major sharpening and a few strokes on a stone will take care of things.

The fine side also works well on my pocket knives. Again, unless you've abused the blade, a few stokes on the fine side of the diamond stone brings the edge right back.

One thing that I haven't yet tried is using the fine side for my wood carving knives. It's very rare that one of these needs to be worked over on a stone. Once properly sharpened, these kinds of knives usually need only to be stropped to polish up the bevel. Of course, sooner or later they will require sharpening and I intend to try using this diamond stone (fine side) for that purpose.

Basically, you can't go wrong with this stone at the price.

5great stone  Jun 17, 2011 By Jacob Robinson
this is an excellent stone, put an edge on my pocket knife in no time. however, I would not call it quite Medium +Fine, while the fine side does seem accurate, the medium description is a little bold. that side of the stone is very aggressive, so be careful!

4Perfect for intended use, not for regular sharpening  Dec 06, 2010 By Camper, Hiker, fisherman.
I am making knives through stock removal. Since I don't have multiple belts for my sander, and stick to the extra coarse belt for quick grinding, I thought this might be handy for smoothing out the deep scratches left by the belt. It's perfect for that. So far, the diamond coating seems to be holding up fine, and after I finish with the coarse polishing on this blade, it will actually be smooth enough (I think) for sharpening a knife as well. As it ships, it's better for sharpening shovels, as it's so coarse that it takes too much metal off (for honing a fine edge) and leaves a deep scratch pattern (but not as deep as the belt). However, after some of that has worn off, it's not a bad little stone.

If you need a cheap diamond stone, order this one, sharpen all your shovels with it, and it should then be smooth enough for a knife.

If you are using it to aid in stock removal or removal of deep pits and scratches in blades, it's absolutely perfect for that, and at 10 bucks, who cares if you ruin it using it for that purpose?

I'm impressed, I think. It's by far more useful than I thought it would be.

5Diamond sharpening stone  Feb 27, 2010 By Larry Siegel
Economical diamond sharpening stone works as expected to produce well honed knife edges. I like the coarse and fine sides that allow shaping and razor edge sharpening with the same "stone". This replaces several sharping stones that take too much time, patience and skill to get sharp edges.
