5High Performance 120 Mesh Stone  Jun 06, 2010 By Richard Wong "Wolf"
Pros:
It cuts fast. It is large and flat. Great for reprofiling thick kitchen knives.

Cons:
Relative expensive. Normal sharpening does not require this and reprofiling thin blades does not.

I bought it for $68. The Extra-Extra-Coarse (XXC) stone is not a cheap stone. it is noticeably more expensive than the Extra-Coarse (XC) stone. This stone can be used to lap and flatten Japanese waterstones and to reprofile knives. Nevertheless, one can use the cheaper XC stone to lap stones and to reprofile many kitchen knives. I have a XC stone and the reason I bought this stone is because this XXC can do a much faster job for reprofiling thick blade knives, like my usuba bocho. Due to the amount of metal, a thick blade knives can easily take 10 times more effort to reprofile than a thin blade. This XXC stone help.

Keep in mind that just because this XXC stone can speed up the profiling process for a thick blade knife, it may lengthen the overall process for a thin knife. This is because this XXC stone leaves very deep scratches on the knife blade which need to be polished out.

5Excellent for flattening waterstones  Oct 02, 2009 By J. Hamilton
I have tried many methods to flatten Japanese natural and synthetic waterstones and this XX DMT is by far the best. It is easy to use, fast and easy to clean and store. Can't ask for more.

4great for flattening stones  Jul 13, 2010 By s.wong
bought this D8XX to flatted my set of whetstones. It does a good job at keeping them perfectly flat and it does it very quickly. spend the extra money and get this extra extra coarse and save some time and effort.

5Very helpful  Jan 28, 2009 By Michael C. Desesa "ahomesteader"
I hate all the time spent straightening chisel and plane blade backs, as well as repairing a badly nicked edge. This extra-extra coarse "stone" speeds up the process quite nicely. I suspect it will also be great at tuning a plane in gross need, though I haven't had opportunity to try it yet.

5Great for water stones  Nov 12, 2009 By B. Gallagher "A friend"
I have to say that this has lived up to the hype as a waterstones flatten-er. Highly recommend it to anyone.
