5DMT is Fast  Feb 03, 2010 By ipski
I had a DMT fine/medium and worked with hard Arkansas to finish. I decided to try a DMT fine/extra fine, and got this with the holder for a nice price on Amazon.

This is a great setup. You can hold by the handle or set on a counter, and changing stones is quick and easy. What took me hours to do before DMT on aluminum oxide and hard Arkansas now goes very quickly, thanks to DMT.

If it slows down a bit just put it under running water for a couple of seconds to wash off particles and it's back. No need to hunt around for a source of good honing oil.

I also like the tip finishing area at one end of the stone, which my first DMT does not have.

5Faster than Arkansas or Japanese stones  Apr 06, 2010 By Adam V. Floyd
I've sharpened about 20 knives using the DMT stones. The real advantage of using these over Arkansas stones or Japanese water stones is the speed at which DMT stones sharpen. They are incredibly fast. That said, this is also the biggest danger of using DMT stones. You are removing material at a rapid rate, so make sure you know what you're doing before using these stones. I would not recommend these for a beginner for that reason, unless you have some knives you can practice on.

The only other downside to using DMT over traditional stones is they tend to be more expensive.

5Knife reviver  Jul 05, 2009 By Caballero
I found a box full of old, blunt, but high quality kitchen knives. In about 5 minutes, I had resharpened all these knives and saved more than the price of the stone for not having to buy a new set!

5VERY fast  Jun 16, 2010 By Loki
I use this sharpener for my kitchen knives. Fine is actually rather coarse and it works super fast on a dull edge, and extra fine is fine enough that I can get away with no polishing. The sharpener needs a few drops of water and it cleans easily under water, the bench comes in quite handy. Highly recommended, much faster and less messy than your regular whetstone.
