Chain sharpener comments Feb 07, 2010
By Thomas Durbin
"Tom Durbin"
This is a very good product; performs as anticipated for sharpening chain saw chains like the pros do. My suggestions are that the directions are not as complete, clear, and easy to follow as they should be. I called the Oregon service center twice for clarification. In fact, there has been a change in one spec that the second technician passed on to me. This should have been included wiht the sharpener. Both service technicians that I spoke with were knowledgeable, happy to help and professional.
The second suggestion is that Oregon should provide a crossover file that lists chains saw models and settings for same.
Thanks for the oppoprtunity to comment.

great grinder , crappy instruction booklet Mar 05, 2010

It works like it should. Great item to have if you cut your own fire wood, or sharpen blades for family and friends aswell for some extra cash. The only problem I had was reading the instruction manual. You will find like several other people I know that it is written in "jibberish". Dont let it deter you in any reguards. You will get some information, but then common sense takes over. Outside of that, use the manual in the bathroom and save on toilet paper. I dont see why Oregon cant re-write the instructions to simplify things.

Another good product from Oregon Jan 30, 2012
By J. D. Bates Excellent tool for sharpening the cutting teeth. You will still have to hand file the depth gauge teeth down. Agree with other reviewers that the instruction book is not the best for first time users, thus a 4-star review. You will figure out how to operate with just marginal mechanical apptitude. There is a video on YouTube that shows how to use an Oregon bench grinder (title - How to Sharpen Chain Saw Chains, Oregon Chainsaw Sharpening Guide) that may help some. In addition shop around for the best price. I ended up buying mine from right-tool.com for about $80 less than Amazon and $140 less than some of the forestry suppliers.
