Nice, but be careful Mar 16, 2010

This is a nice looking bench. I've only had it for a week and it feels solid and sturdy. Only thing is that when hammering in the "support thingees" underneath the bottom--you have to be really carefull and not go too far. I suggest about a 1/4 (the manual say 1/2) or else you'll end up breaking through the top and cracking it, leaving an ugly mound. This happened to me. I ended having to hammer the mound down and coloring the crack with the brown marker provided. You can't hardly tell it was even there unless you actually get down and look at it. Otherwise, you wouldn't even know it was there. (It still bugs me though knowing that it's there and not perfect.) Overall, this is a nice bench. We'll see how it holds up.

My wife and I treat our house Japanese style--meaning no shoes in the house. But American houses are really designed for that with specific entryways and shoe-closets. So we needed something that looked nice and could hold shoes.
We picked this "Prepac Manhattan Espresso Cubbie Bench" as an affordable solution. We combined it with the Household Essentials ML-6966B Woven-Banana-Leaf Collapsible Storage Bin, Brown which fit perfectly into the cubbie holes on this bench. They looked like they were designed for each other.
The bench itself is good-looking and easy to put together. My wife was able to put it together by herself, and it didn't require any heavy lifting or special tools. The bench is a nice color, and looks like a solid piece of furniture. It isn't solid wood, but you can't tell that just by looking at it!
